You little bastard, third and fourth gens totally fixed some problems that you don't seem to grasp! The 'get to have a raeson to level past sixty' thing was further addressed with each passing generation, and while I'll gladly admit that there's never been a 'race to Red' since and the 'sidequests as a means to an end' are irksome, it could be argued that the entirety of Kanto was practically one big sidequest in the vein of later islands and mountains and so forth in Hoenn and Sinnoh! In fact, with the inclusion of the Battle Frontier, debuting in 2005 in Emerald, and returning in many following releases, it could be argued that aside from compelling association, Red's been replaced, dethroned, finito. But then again, I do look forward to beating the shit out of him again in HG/SS, so you certainly have valid points.
